Four Enshrined To SeaWolves HOF, Class of 2019

CAPE ELIZABETH, Maine—Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics enshrined four as class of 2019 to the SeaWolves Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 2. Alisa Sweet, Michela Desjardins, Phil Desjardins, and Eric Bruneau joined an elite group of 32 individuals and one team for their accomplishments on the playing field and for their service to the SMCC Athletics community.

The 14th annual induction ceremony was held at Purpoodock Golf Club met with friends and family of the inductees in addition to faculty, staff, and student-athlete support. Director of Athletics Matt Richards emceed the event among speeches from SMCC President Joseph Cassidy, SeaWolves Athletic Club President Eric Bruneau, the inductors, and the inductees.

Michela Desjardins (’13 Women’s Soccer)

Michela Desjardins played two seasons for the women’s soccer program, recording 21 goals and 45 points. The crafty forward ranks 5th all-time in goals and 4th among players with two-year careers. Desjardins ranked 2nd in total goals and points among Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) players in 2012. She was named a YSCC All-Conference selection in 2012 and 2013 and a United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Honorable Mention All-American in the same seasons.

Alisa Sweet (’11 Women’s Basketball)

Alisa Sweet ranks sixth all-time in scoring (781 points) as a two-year member of the women’s basketball program (2010-2011). Sweet averaged near a double-double in 55 games played at 14.2 PPG and 9.9 REB/G. She logged a .450 career field goal percentage, .381 three-point percentage, and .594 free-throw percentage. Sweet ranks 3rd in PPG and 2nd in REB/G among players having played 50 or more games. The power forward was a YSCC All-Conference selection in 2010, crowned a conference champion in 2010 and 2011, and made USCAA national tournament appearances in the same seasons.

Coach Phil Desjardins (’12 Baseball)

Coach Desjardins stands as the all-time winningest baseball coach in SMCC history—amassing a 220-163 overall record (.574 win%) spanning a 16-season tenure (1996-2012). Desjardins won three YSCC championships (06, 07, 12) and made three USCAA national tournament appearances (08, 10, 11). Desjardins was named YSCC Coach of the Year in 2007 and coached to his best season a year later finishing 31-6. During his time at SMCC, Desjardins produced 6 USCAA All-Americans (7 selections) and will be inducted as the third Hall of Fame coach.

Eric Bruneau (SeaWolves Athletic Club President)

Eric Bruneau is the first to be inducted under the “Friends and Supporters” category—fitting on the 10-year anniversary of the SeaWolves Athletic Club. Bruneau, has been a proud contributor to student-athlete travel as owner of South Portland House of Pizza—a business that has been a corporate sponsor to SMCC’s annual golf tournament fundraiser for 15 years. Bruneau has also helped raise nearly $310,000 as the President of the SeaWolves Athletic Club, serving in this role for nine years—providing financial support to improve the college’s offering of facilities and equipment and a positive athletic experience.

Richards summed up the event stating, “Alisa, Michela, Phil, and Eric accomplished spectacular feats here at SMCC—those forever etched in the record books. All are true representatives of what it means to represent SeaWolves Athletics and the college in a positive and meaningful way. I am extremely pleased to officially induct these four as class of 2019.”
