SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team completed its Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) fall regular season grabbing two wins from Great Bay Community College (GBCC) on Sunday, Oct. 1.
Game 1: W, 7-2 | Box Score
In his second start of the season, Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) had a career day, recording 13 strikeouts and no earned runs in a complete game performance. The right-hander had everything working to notch his second win of the fall.
The SeaWolves were quick to give Herrin the run support he needed with four runs in the first. The only blemish came in the fourth inning when the Herons managed to get two by the defense. The high-powered SMCC offense would sprinkle in three more runs before the end of it to run away with a 7-2 victory.
Sophomore Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.) recorded his third multi-hit game of the season and added an RBI from the lead-off spot. First-year Timothy Greenlaw (Windham, Maine) was a perfect 3-3 from the dish, offering some pop with a homer and three RBI as the designated hitter.
Herrin's dominance on the mound ranks him first in strikeouts (31), ERA (1.50), and wins (2) among all conference pitchers.
Game 2: W, 7-3 | Box Score
First-year James Parisi (Rockport, Mass.) got the nod in the second game when the SMCC pitching staff continued to impress. Parisi allowed just two earned runs while adding five more to the doubleheader strike out total. Opposite Parisi was GBCC's Josh Saurman who threw for similar numbers.
The SeaWolves overcame an early two-run deficit scoring once in the second and twice in the third. The Heron's tied the ballgame on an RBI single by Jeremy Jacques before SMCC went ahead for good on a big three-run fourth inning. Bryant would seal the victory on a RBI single that scored sophomore Justin Leeman (North Yarmouth, Maine) in the sixth to make it 7-3.
Junior Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) had the two-hit game for the home team helping Parisi earn his second win of the season; Saurman with the loss.
Assistant Coach Josh Brister commented, "We've been playing solid baseball for the last week. Amos went out and controlled the strike zone—pitching his way out of trouble. In the second game, James worked out of a basses loaded jam at a crucial point in the game—this was a big moment for our pitching staff as a whole."

SMCC leads the conference in runs scored with 87 spanning 12 games this season. The SeaWolves have locked up the one-seed with a 9-3 conference record heading into the YSCC Fall Championship tournament in South Portland on Saturday, Oct. 7. 4-0 against Central Maine Community College this season, SMCC will match up with its fourth-seeded rival in the semi-finals at 1:30 p.m.
