Baseball Combines For Shutout Sweep

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team shut out NHTI in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday, Sept. 8.

Game 1: W, 7-0 | BOX

Sophomore Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) took the hill in game one to allow just two hits spanning five innings of work. The effective right-hander struck out six in his first start of the fall. First-year Cole Lawrence (Pittston, Maine) offered two innings of relief.

The SeaWolves scored in each of the first four innings backed by three RBIs from the 9-1 hitters, Cody Bryant (Somersworth, N.H.) and Ian Westphal (Portland, Maine).

Francoeur earned the win; NHTI's Tyler Sargent was suffered the loss.

Game 2: W, 9-0 | BOX

It was first-year Stefan Lesco (Somers, Conn.) who got the nod in the second game, again backed by a heavy run support. Lesco allowed three hits after five strikeouts over six innings before Bryant closed the door with one inning of relief work.

First-year Jacob Poole (South Portland, Maine) was the hot hand at the plate, slugging a 3-4 from the dish to add three runs and an RBI. Francoeur tallied three RBIs and featured a triple in the contest.

Lesco was credited the win and NHTI's Adam Young the loss.
