SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team collected its first win of the fall ball slate in a 6-0 shutout over the Lynx from NHTI on Sunday, Sept. 8 at Graves Athletic Field.

The SeaWolves pushed three across in their first inning reps and posted two more in the fifth to break open the scoring. SMCC tacked on another in the sixth, adding to an 8-hit afternoon.

Junior captain Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) took a no-no into the sixth inning before recording 10 punch-outs. Sophomore Cole Lawrence (Pittston, Maine) provided two innings of one-hit relief and added three strikeouts. First-year Brayden Bartlett (Denmark, Maine) closed the door in the ninth in his first appearance of his rookie campaign.

Sophomore captain Peter Stauber (Cumberland, Maine) logged two hits in four at-bats, working a walk, and two runs. Sophomore Alexander Miller (Brandon, Fl.) also recorded a multi-hit game in three trips to the dish. First-year first baseman Cameron Cousins (Wells, Maine) connected for a 2-rbi hit and first-year Jackson Bowlen (Rochester, N.H.) delivered a RBI on a 1-3 day.

Francoeur earned his 14th career win to move into sole possession of first place in program history. NHTI's Riley Belleau pitched 4.1 innings and allowed four earned runs suffering the loss.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Dave Walsh stated, "With a new group and limited preparation, I was impressed with our execution. We are deep and talented at every position—players understand their roles and showed positive energy on the bench. First-years showed discipline at the plate and Francoeur picked up right where he left off in 2018, mixing his pitches and keeping hitters off balance. This group has a bright baseball future ahead of them."

SMCC begins its season 1-0; NHTI dips to .500 at 1-1 overall.
