Baseball Sweeps At YSCC Round Robin

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball program took both in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) round robin play date on Saturday, Sept. 14, defeating NHTI 9-1 and Central Maine Community College (CMCC) 9-2.

Game 1: W, 9-1 | BOX

First-year Bryan Pena (Salem, Mass.) took the hill in his first collegiate start and pitched five innings of four-hit baseball. The right-hander struck out five and walked two before first-year Shane Rooney (Rowley, Mass.) made a near perfect relief appearance, walking just one batter over two innings of work.

Both sophomore captains Peter Stauber (Cumberland, Maine) and Colby Gunter (Nashua, N.H.) scored twice—each with a walk and a hit, Gunter a triple. Stauber, first-year Joshua Paisley (Portland, Maine), first-year Hayden O'Donnell (Portland, Maine), and first-year Ernesto Mora (Lynn, Mass.) all collected RBIs.

The SeaWolves scored five in the fifth on their way to a 9-run performance.

NHTI's Adam Young pitched 4.2 innings, conceding just three hits but taxed the loss.

Game 2: W, 9-2 | BOX

First-year John-Bruce Lauter (Appomattox, Va.) made his rookie debut on the rubber pumping four innings, allowing no runs. Lauter struck out five before handing it over to first-year Benjamin Freeman (Bowdoin, Maine) and then first-year Jake Sullivan (Weymouth, Mass.) who logged the final two innings for SMCC.

The SeaWolves collected 13 hits led by first-year Juan Subervi's (Lynn, Mass.) two hit, four RBI day. Paisley contributed three RBIs in four trips to the plate.

CMCC's Jackson Allen was hit for all nine runs over 5.1 innings.

The doubleheader sweep elevates the SeaWolves to 3-0 overall in fall ball scheduling.

On deck for SMCC is a twin bill at CMCC on Tuesday, Sept. 17. Game times are slated for 5/7 p.m. under the lights in Auburn, Maine.
