Men’s Basketball 2-0 To Begin 2018-19

AUBURN, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team took home two wins from the annual Can-Am Tournament hosted by Central Maine Community College over the weekend.

Saturday, Oct. 27
W, 82-28 vs. University of Prince Edward Island

SMCC ran away with this one posting 45 points in the first half and another 37 in the second.

This a shared effort, all but one SeaWolf etched their name into the score sheet in the season opener. Senior captain Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) led all scorers with 11; fellow senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) totaled eight points, three steals, and pulled down seven boards in 14 minutes on the floor.

The SeaWolves recorded 18 steals and 15 offensive rebounds to compliment a 46.2 percent clip from beyond the arc.

Prince Edward Island's Jesse Fleming led a roster of five with eight points.

Sunday, Oct. 28
W, 92-61 vs. University of New Brunswick Saint John

The SeaWolves improved on their point total from day one in part by making nine three-pointers in the first half to score 49 and limited their opponent to 38.7 percent from the floor. SMCC went on to outscore Saint John by 14 in second half action.

Cloutier again recorded a game-high 22 points; Martin, senior captain Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) and sophomore Jacobee Burpee (Manchester, N.H.) also finished in double figures. Burpee an impressive stat line adding nine assists, six rebounds, and five steals.

Saint John's Alex Giesecke buried a team-high 19 points in 24 minutes of work.

The SeaWolves begin their 2018-19 season 2-0 and will play host to Ben Franklin Institute of Technology in the home opener at the HUB Gymnasium on Thursday, Nov. 1. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. LIVE STATS.
