Martin, Kavutse Record Double-Doubles In First YSCC Victory

PAUL SMITH'S, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team secured its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory on Sunday, Nov. 11 taking down the Bobcats of Paul Smith's College 84-61.

In both halves, SMCC totaled 40 points or better and matched a season-low 29 points-against in the first.

For the second straight game, four of the five SMCC starters went four 11 or more points—featuring double-doubles from captains Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) and Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine). The front court combo was 17-29 shooting on its way to 43 points, chipping in for 25 rebounds.

Sophomore Jacobee Burpee (Manchester, N.H.) added 12 points and six assists to keep up with his 6.8 AST/G. The difference in the game was SMCC's ability to control the glass, out-rebounding its opponent 51-32. The road team was nine buckets better on 10 more attempts.

Paul Smith's Kenny Smith came off the bench to lead his team with 17 points on 8-12 from the floor.

The SeaWolves climb to 5-1 overall, 1-0 in YSCC play; the Bobcats stand 2-5 overall, 0-1 in league action.
