Cloutier Nets 25, SeaWolves Stunned In YSCC Finale

RANDOPLH, Vt.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team was stunned 74-70 at Vermont Technical College (VTC) in its final regular season Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest on Saturday, Feb. 9.

This contest featured 14 lead changes and eight ties—one of which ended the first half. The SeaWolves rode 41.4 percent shooting to a 30-30 tie at the break, getting 13 points from senior captain Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) on 5-8 from the floor.

Sophomore Tyler Mickle (Billerica, Mass.) finished a layup to again even the score at 70-70, this time with 1:13 remaining in regulation. The Knights did well to attack the basket and get to the free throw line in the final minute to knock down 4-4, the different in the ball game.

Cloutier ended with 25 points on 75.0 percent shooting—contributing five rebounds and two steals. Senior captain Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine) scored 15, his sixth consecutive game in double figures, and added four assists.

VTC's Jeremiah Shaw led his team with 25 points and seven rebounds; Tyrone Hilson went for 19 points and seven rebounds.

Per the result, the SeaWolves will enter the YSCC playoff tournament as the #2-seed losing the tiebreaker to #1 NHTI.
