UMF outlasts SMCC 79-68

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team suffered its eighth loss of the season, 79-68, against non-conference opponent University of Maine at Farmington (NCAA Div. 3) inside the HUB Athletics Building on Sunday, Dec. 1. 

The Beavers took over early and would extend their lead to as much as 16 points in the first half. The Seawolves managed to cut their deficit to an 11-point margin, 40-29, going into the break. Farmington started fast again in the second, managing to increase its lead back to 17 points with 13 minutes to go. The home team tried one final push to make a comeback, but the Beavers' relentless attack would secure them the victory. 

SMCC co-captain Thomas Martinotti (Harwinton, Conn.) connected for 15 points, shooting 3-6 from behind the arc. Sophomore Cole Pulkinen (Hebron, Maine) totaled 14 points and six rebounds, and juniors Colby Dillingham (Norway, Maine) and Ben Mullett (Hudson, N.H) each scored eight off the bench. 

The Beavers were led by Will Harriman, who posted 25 points on an efficient 5-7 shooting performance from three-point territory. Center Dylan Griffin contributed a double-double recording 19 points and 13 boards. 

The result moves SMCC to 0-8.

The Seawolves return to Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) action when they travel to Great Bay Community College on Wednesday, Dec. 4. Tip-off in Portsmouth, N.H. is scheduled for 6:00 p.m.
