AUGUSTA, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf team placed second in a Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) match hosted by the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) at Augusta Country Club on Saturday, Sept. 21.

NHTI took first place for the third consecutive weekend scoring a 345 followed by the SeaWolves who posted a season low 365 in the team ranks. Both UMA and Great Bay Community College were in attendance but were disqualified from team play with two few participants.

NHTI's Ryan Rothdiener posted the only sub-80 card at 73 to win the match. It was SMCC first-year Sam Winslow (Portland, Maine) who turned in a career best 85 to medal for the first time this season; followed by NHTI's Chris Nelson who shot an 88.

As for the rest of the SeaWolves, first-year Ethan Laverriere (Alfred, Maine) and sophomore Robert Caron (Naples, Maine) scored their lowest rounds of the fall shooting an 89 and a 91. First-year Chase Locke (Biddeford, Maine) fired an even 100 and sophomore Dylan Pooler (Hallowell, Maine) was left off the scoring team finishing with a 114 in his first round of the year.

In a post-match interview, Head Coach Chuck Ott commented, "Today we made huge strides as a team—finishing 18 strokes better than our opening round at Beaver Meadow two weeks prior. Everyone improved on their individual golf games during practice this week and the results showed. I look forward to seeing what we can do on our home course, a track we are more familiar with, next week."
