CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) golf program competed in its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) round of 2019 at Beaver Meadow Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 7.

NHTI placed first in team scoring carding a 322 at its home track. SMCC finished second 61 strokes behind turning in a 383, while the University of Maine at Augusta (UMA) was disqualified from team scoring with only three golfers in attendance.

First-year Samuel Winslow (Portland, Maine) fired a team-best 87, in front of sophomore Robert Caron’s (Naples Maine) 94. First-year Ethan Laverriere (Alfred, Maine) posted a 99—then it was first-year Chase Locke (Biddeford, Maine) with a 103, followed by first-year Connor Ward signing off with a 112.

NHTI’s Ryan Rothdiener medaled a first place finish shooting an impressive 74—teammate Chris Nelson also finished sub-80 just five strokes behind. Sean Higgins made it a podium sweep for NHTI totaling a nice round at 83.

Following the round, Head Coach Chuck Ott commented, “This group is headed in the right direction. We are young and this was a definite learning experience to show areas of improvement necessary to compete at the collegiate level. There is plenty to work on in the realm of course management, and we’ll get another shot at it a week from today.”

The SeaWolves will do it again when they travel back to Beaver Meadow for another YSCC invitational Saturday, Sept. 14.
