SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team earned its first win of the season with a 1-0 result over the Knights from Northern Essex Community College (NECC) at its home opener on Thursday, Sept. 5.

The game held in a deadlock for the first 45 minutes of action before first-year forward Keto Tchiputo (Portland, Maine) created off the dribble to score the game's lone goal eight minutes into the second half. The defensive personnel managed a persistent Knight attack to keep the clean sheet for the threesome of SeaWolf goalkeepers.

First-year Joshua Nagle (Biddeford, Maine), first-year Christopher Ferguson (Casco, Maine), and sophomore Camden Labrecque (Saco, Maine) split minutes inside the goal frame for the home team to face 10 shots on goal by the opposition.

In a post-game interview Head Coach Brian Dougher stated, "Northern Essex has a bright future as a first year program. We were able to play 25 guys today, and all contributed positive minutes. Keeping the shutout intact was important for our defensive unit after conceding three the game before. We look forward to carrying the momentum into the weekend."

SMCC improves to 1-1-0 overall; NECC begins its season 0-1-0.

The SeaWolves will begin Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they host the Knights from Vermont Technical College at Wainwright Recreation Complex for a 2 p.m. kick-off. LIVE STATS.
