SMCC Extends Win Streak To 5, Blanks NHTI 4-0

CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team won its fifth straight on Wednesday, Sept. 18 taking down the defending Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champion Lynx of NHTI 4-0.

First-year Mohamed Matan (Lewiston, Maine) scored his sixth of the season unassisted to put the road team on top at the 6:24 mark. The crafty forward netted his seventh 30 minutes later on a ball delivered from fellow striker Keto Tchiputo (Portland, Maine) to double the SeaWolf lead.

First-year Joel Musese (Auburn, Maine) made quick work of the second half turning the scoreboard over with his second cap of the fall in the 52nd minute. Then, it was first-year center back Hussein Hassan (Lewiston, Maine) who used his head to redirected a corner kick service from Matan to make it 4-0 before regulation expired.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Brian Dougher stated, "After a late arrival and a quick warm-up, we did a great job to play from the kickoff. At this point in the season, we've nearly reached our goal total from last season while logging another clean sheet. We're trending in the right direction—Friday will be another test."

SMCC jumps to 5-1-0 overall, 4-0-0 in conference play. NHTI suffers its first loss of the season and now sits 4-1-0, 3-1-0 YSCC.

The SeaWolves are back in action on Friday, Sept. 20 when they travel to Bridgton Academy for a non-conference tilt beginning at 4 p.m.
