Men’s Soccer Crowned YSCC Regular Season Champions

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's soccer team finished a perfect Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) season getting a 2-0 result over the Clippers from the University of Maine at Machias on Saturday, Oct. 12.

First-year striker Mohamed Matan (Lewiston, Maine) put the home team ahead minutes before the first half expired—his 14th cap of the season. First-year midfielder Joel Musese (Auburn, Maine) doubled the SeaWolf lead knocking a free kick by the Clipper goalie four minutes into the second half.

SMCC fired 11 shots and landed four on target, the opposition took 14 to land six. First-year SMCC keeper Joshua Nagle (Biddeford, Maine) recorded six saves in as many attempts to win the decision.

SMCC records its seventh shutout win of the season to jump to 10-2 overall and 7-0 in YSCC play—crowned conference regular season champions for the second consecutive season. The SeaWolves earn a first-round bye and advance to the final four bracket as the #1 seed beginning Saturday, Oct. 26 in Concord, N.H. Machias slips to 1-8-1 overall and will host a playoff play-in game as the #5 seed.
