Men’s Soccer To Defend YSCC Regular Season Crown With 13-Game Schedule

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Head Coach Brian Dougher will continue at the helm of the men’s soccer program in his 15th season, sporting a career win-loss record of 110-82-17 spanning 10 winning seasons.

The SeaWolves dawn the 2019 season on the road at Albany College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, an affiliate of the Hudson Valley Conference, on Sunday, Sept. 1. SMCC will look to get in the win column having been defeated by Albany in all four tries. Next is a first ever meeting with Northern Essex Community College to celebrate SMCC’s home opener in a midweek showdown Thursday, Sept. 5.

Tabbed Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) regular season champions a season ago, the men will open its conference slate at Wainwright on Sunday, Sept. 8 against Vermont Technical College before traveling to Auburn to do battle with rival Central Maine Community College under the lights on Wednesday, Sept. 11. The SeaWolves continue conference play with a road trip to Paul Smith’s College and then pay a visit to reigning YSCC champion NHTI on Wednesday, Sept. 18. SMCC will play for its first win against the Lynx since 2011.

The men wrap a four-game road stint at Bridgton Academy on Saturday, Sept. 21 on a back-to-back weekend slate with Hampshire College on Sunday. September will finish at the Community College of Rhode Island, an affiliate of the National Junior College Athletic Association—the SeaWolves aim to bounce back suffering a 2-0 defeat in 2018.

SMCC looks to extend its 10-game unbeaten streak against Unity College to begin October ahead of a weekend trip to Brockton, Mass. to avenge a shutout defeat to Massasoit Community College last fall. The Bowdoin College Junior Varsity squad will come to town for an exhibition on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as part of a three-game home stand to include the University of Maine at Machias on Saturday, Oct. 12 and Central Maine Community College for the regular season finale Monday, Oct. 14.

New to 2019 is a six-team postseason format with a #3 vs. #6 and #4 vs. #5 play-in round scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 19. The YSCC Final Four will be held again at NHTI Oct. 26-27. The USCAA National Tournament is set for Nov. 7-11 in Virginia Beach, Va.

All soccer home games are played at Wainwright Recreation Complex at 125 Gary L. Maietta Way in South Portland.
