CONCORD, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) softball team dropped both to the reigning Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champion NHTI Lynx in doubleheader action on Saturday, Sept. 29.

Game 1: L, 7-4 | BOX

First-year Meghan Johnston (Franklin, N.H.) started in the circle to go 3.1 innings and allow six runs over six hits; Emily Chasse (Monmouth, Maine) came on to toss 2.2 innings of solid relief work.

The two at the top of the lineup, sophomore Maranda Martin (Richmond, Maine) and first-year Morgan Boyle (Portland, Maine), collected multi-hit games in three trips to the plate. The three and four hitters, first-year Emily Lashua (Auburn, Maine) and sophomore Sara Ring (Wells, Maine), combined to produce four RBI.

NHTI's Briana Connolly went 2-3 from the dish, featuring a three-run homerun. Kirsten Mackenzie threw a complete game to earn the win for the Lady Lynx.

Game 2: L, 11-3 (6 innings) | BOX

Coach Magnant gave the ball to sophomore Sarah Guimond (East Waterboro, Maine) in the second game. The hard-throwing righty went 2.1 innings and was taxed with five runs. Johnston and Martin both appeared in relief.

The SeaWolves struck in the first with RBI hits by Lashua and Ring before NHTI answered the bell with two big innings posting five in the third and four more in the fourth. Ring collected another RBI smacking a single up the middle in the fifth, but the road team would fall by the eight-run rule when NHTI pushed another across in the bottom-half of the sixth.

NHTI's Brianna Whitcomb earned the win.

The result leaves SMCC 1-3 overall.

The Lady Wolves return to the diamond on Saturday, Oct. 6 when they play host to the Herons from Great Bay Community College. Doubleheader action begins at 12 p.m.
