Ray Magnant Resigns as Head Softball Coach

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College Athletics Department announced this afternoon (June 20) that Ray Magnant has resigned as Head Softball Coach.

Magnant, a three-time Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Coach of the Year, compiled a 50-29 record overall (0.633 win%) and a 21-7 conference mark over his three seasons at the helm. He produced seven YSCC All-Conference selections, seven United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) All-Americans, and five USCAA Academic All-Americans.

Magnant stated, "I want to thank Matt Richards and the athletics department for giving me the opportunity to coach in the college ranks at SMCC. It was a lot of fun and a great experience. I wish the program and the returners all of the best this coming season."

Magnant intends to pursue other coaching opportunities at the collegiate level.

The athletic department will begin its search immediately.
