Weekend Recap: Women’s Basketball Sweeps On The Road, Brett Reaches 1,000

HOLYOKE, Mass./PAUL SMITH'S, N.Y.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team extended its unbeaten streak to five getting results over Holyoke Community College 66-30 on Friday, Nov. 8 and at Paul Smith's College 102-19 on Saturday, Nov. 9.

SMCC went to work right away posting 26 points in the first quarter and outscoring the opposition 17-2 in the second. The Lady SeaWolves would combine for 26 points in the second half to cruise to a 33-point victory.

Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) became the second player in women's basketball history to eclipse the 1,000-point total—part of her 18 on the night. Brett added nine rebounds, four assists, and four blocks to an impressive stat line.

Head Coach Katie Stannard commented, "I admire Amanda's skill, dominance, and scoring 1,000 points just four games into her junior season. As a coach I am proud of the woman she is becoming and the leadership she demonstrates every day to her teammates—her growth day-to-day is unlike anything I've ever seen."

First-year center Elise Hebert (Arundel, Maine) totaled her first career double-double going for 11 points and 13 boards in 15 minutes of action.

The SeaWolves posted a season-high 102 points, outscoring the opposition in each quarter and limiting Paul Smith's to just six points in the first half.

Four finished in double digits for SMCC powered by junior captain Morgan Rice's (Westbrook, Maine) career-best 17 points on 8-17 shooting. First-year Katrin Dumont (Saco, Maine) netted 14 followed by senior captain Adrianna White (Lisbon, Maine) and first-year Bailey Whitney (Norway, Maine) who both contributed 10—Whitney with nine rebounds.

As a team, the SeaWolves made 46.2 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from beyond the arc.

SMCC improves to 5-0 overall and 1-0 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play.

The action continues when the Lady Wolves travel to Great Bay Community College to take on the Herons in another conference showdown on Wednesday, Nov. 13. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m. in Portsmouth N.H.
