PORTSMOUTH, N.H.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women’s basketball program posted a season-high 104 points at Great Bay Community College (GBCC) to capture its second Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory of the year on Wednesday, Nov. 13.
Every player saw time for the SeaWolves and all but two found their way into the scoresheet. Four finished in double digits for the road team, led by first-year Bailey Whitney’s (Norway, Maine) 19 points—a career high. Junior captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) totaled 18 points on 8-11 shooting and first-years Hope Adkins (Guilford, Maine) and Aija Andrews (Norwalk, Conn.) both dropped 10 points.
The SMCC defense limited the Herons to single digit point totals in each quarter—improving on a YSCC-best 35.2 points-against-average. The SeaWolves converted at a 44.4 percent clip from the field and made a third of their attempts from beyond the arc.
In a post-game interview Head Coach Katie Stannard stated, “Everyone not only contributed, but gave us productive minutes today. This team is deep at every position on the floor and we are fortunate to get our depth chart experience to help carry us through the rest of the season.”
The Lady Wolves stay perfect at 6-0 overall and 2-0 in league action. The Herons return to .500 at 2-2 overall, 1-2 YSCC.
