Katrina Stannard (formerly Bergeron) begins her eighth season at the helm of the women's basketball program. Stannard has set the program mark for season wins at 24, reaching that toal in 2017 and again in 2020, and led the team to its first ever United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) National Final Four appearance in her first season.

Coach Stannard has recorded six consecutive Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) post-season berths and has recieved bids to the USCAA National Tournament in four of her six seasons (COVID-19 cancellation in 2021). Stannard is the all-time winningest coach in program history compiling a 131-40 overall record (.766 win%) and 73-17 mark in conference action. In her time at SMCC, Stannard has produced 13 YSCC All-Conference selections (two tabbed Players of the Year), 10 USCAA All-American selections, nine USCAA Academic All-Americans, and was honored as YSCC Coach of the Year in 2019.

Prior to SMCC, Stannard served as the Head Girls JV and Assistant Varsity Coach at South Portland High School helping the Red Riots to a Southern Maine regional finals appearance.

Stannard is a Maine native, Old Town Hall of Fame inductee, and graduate of Bowdoin College (2011). There she was a four-year member, senior captain, and 1,000-point scorer of the women’s basketball team. Stannard served one year as the Assistant Women’s Basketball Coach at Emmanuel College (Boston, Mass.) before pursuing a professional basketball career in Europe. Stannard played two seasons as the starting point guard for Leeds Carnegie (Leeds, UK) and another season with Aabyhoj Basketball Club (Aarhus, Denmark).

In 2013-14, Stannard received two master's degrees from Leeds Metropolitan University (Leeds, UK), in Sport Business and Sport Law and Society. During her time in Leeds, Stannard also worked as a community coach with a strong focus on developing the youth basketball program in the area.

Stannard describes her vision for the SMCC program, “After my many years of playing and coaching, I have come to develop five core coaching beliefs: communication, trust, efficiency, enthusiasm, and vulnerability. I have a passion for coaching and leadership as well as empowering young women to reach their full potential.”

In addition to her duties at SMCC, Stannard works as an VP Branch Leader at Fidelity Investments and resides in Falmouth with her husband Jack and daughters Blair and Poppy.
