LINCOLN, R.I.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team picked up its fourth win on the road Saturday, Sept. 28 getting a 2-0 result over the Knights of the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI).
Junior captain Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) finished a corner kick chance on a one-time strike in the 70th minute, delivered by first-year Desiree Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) and dummied by first-year Sidney Bartunek (Pittston, Maine).
It was first-year forward Logan Pray (Cumberland, Maine) who netted her third of the season, capitalizing on 30-yard dribble and thru-ball from captain defender Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) at the 80 minute-mark.
First-year goal keeper Calley Baker (Jay, Maine) made double digit saves to keep the clean sheet intact and push SMCC's goals-against-average down to 0.32.
In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ethan Wells reflected, "This defensive unit can compete with anyone, logging their fifth shutout of the season. Offensively, we are getting more creative as the season progresses. Tomorrow will be an exciting challenge on both ends."
SMCC improves to 6-0-1 overall, remaining 3-0-1 in conference play; CCRI falls to 4-2 overall.
The SeaWolves take to the pitch again on a back-to-back, this time at home, when they entertain the #1-ranked United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 1 program in Bryant & Stratton University- Syracuse. Kickoff at Wainwright Recreation Complex is scheduled for 12 p.m. LIVE STATS.
