BROCKTON, Mass.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer program picked up its seventh win of the season in a non-conference match at Massasoit Community College on Sunday, Oct. 6.
First-year striker Logan Pray (Cumberland, Maine) opened scoring inside the three-minute mark unassisted to give her team a 1-0 advantage. Junior captain Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) netted her tenth of the season on a one-two pass from Pray to blast a close range shot by Massasoit's keeper midway through the first.
Pray found the back of the net for the third score of the game and her fifth of the season on a delivery off the foot of captain defender Paige Lord (Pittsfield, Maine) near the end of regulation. The SMCC defensive unit held the opposition scoreless for the sixth time this fall to lower its goals-against-average to 0.54—ranking third among all United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division 2 programs.
In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ethan Wells stated, "Getting production on the road on both ends of the ball is nice to see at this point in the season. With one away and two remaining at home, we look to finish strong and be playing our best brand going into tournament time."
SMCC improves on its road record (5-0-1) and stands 7-1-1 overall; Massasoit slips to 5-4-0 on the season.
Next up for the Lady SeaWolves is a trip to Unity College (0-5-0) to do battle with the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Rams on Thursday, Oct. 10. Kickoff is scheduled for 4 p.m.
