SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's soccer team scored three in the second half to defeat the Mustangs from Central Maine Community College by the same margin in a non-conference game on Senior Day Tuesday, Oct. 17.

Prior to the game, SMCC Athletics honored and gave thanks to four graduating players who have contributed two or more years to the program—Bernise Bartlett (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine), Katelin Bennett (Freedom, Maine), captain Ryleigh Lord (Pittsfield, Maine), and captain Brenna Frye (Lebanon, Maine).

Although it was SMCC who outshot its opponent 12-3 in the first 45 minutes, it was nothing doing for either side leaving the game scoreless at the break. The SeaWolves started scoring on a corner kick delivered by first-year Desiree Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) and redirected by Ryleigh Lord. Junior captain Callie O'Brien (South Portland, Maine) tied the conference scoring total on a combination thru-ball by first-year Logan Pray (Cumberland, Maine), and then it was first-year Jordan Ott (Lisbon Falls, Maine) in the 89th minute on a pass knocked across the 18 by O'Brien—this Ott's first collegiate goal.

The SMCC defensive unit lowers its goals-against-average to 0.40—best among United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) division 1 and 2 programs. First-year Calley Baker (Jay, Maine) grabbed two saves to secure her ninth shutout of the season.

In a post-game interview, Head Coach Ethan Wells stated, "To our seniors, it has been an absolute pleasure to coach these four young women for two seasons—all are incredible teammates and will leave their mark on the program for years to come. It's nice to finish the regular season on a high note in preparation for a week of focused practice."

Central Maine will host Vermont Technical College in the #4 vs. #5 play-in matchup this weekend.

The Lady SeaWolves get to a USCAA-best 10 wins and help themselves to a first round bye with either the #1 or #2 seed pending the results of the remainder of Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) non-conference scheduling. With either seeding, SMCC advances to the final four round in Concord, N.H. on Saturday, Oct. 26.
