VIRGINIA BEACH, Virginia – The Seawolves (8-3-5) claimed victories over #1 SUNY-ESF and #5 NHTI in pool play, but fell just short in a shootout to #6 Albany College of Pharmacy Health Sciences (ACPHS) in the national championship game of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Division II tournament on Sunday, Nov. 13.

First-year Chanelle McDonough (Gorham, Maine), also named to the All-Tournament team, netted the game's lone goal in SMCC's 1-0 win over SUNY-ESF in the opening round of the tournament on Saturday. McDonough tallied another goal against NHTI on Sunday, with junior captain Desiree Veilleux (Winslow, Maine) adding a goal of her own by way of a free kick in the 2-0 victory. First-year goalkeeper Grayson Soldati (Portland, Maine) recorded 11 saves across the two shutouts to earn herself a spot on the All-Tournament team.

The Seawolves struck first in the national championship game on Monday when sophomore captain Ammelia Lunt (West Gardiner, Maine) tucked a cross from sophomore Mackenzie Farnham (South Portland, Maine) into the lower left corner in the 42nd minute. Both Farnham and Lunt were selected to the All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the championship game, which ended in favor of ACPHS after they defeated SMCC 7-6 in a penalty kick shootout following a scoreless double-overtime period.
