Women Remain Second and Men Drop To Eighth in National Poll

NORFOLK, Va.— In the second coaches’ poll released by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on Friday, Dec. 9, both the men’s and women’s Southern Maine Community College basketball programs received national ranking among the top 20 Division II programs in the association.

NORFOLK, Va.— In the second coaches’ poll released by the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) on Friday, Dec. 9, both the men’s and women’s Southern Maine Community College basketball programs received national ranking among the top 20 Division II programs in the association.

In a poll, based on a point system and voted on by a committee of men’s and women’s basketball coaches nationwide, the SMCC women’s team earned the second spot for the second week in a row, receiving 294 points, just four back of Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC)-opponent Central Maine Community College. Other YSCC women’s programs receiving rankings were: New Hampshire Technical Institute (T-4) up four spots, College of St. Joseph (VT) (8) down four, University of Maine- Augusta (9) up one, and the University of Maine- Machias (18).

Among the six YSCC teams making the poll on the men’s side, the SeaWolves received a total of 256 points, ranking them eighth and one spot down from last week’s poll. Other YSCC programs receiving rankings were: NHTI (7) down three spots, CMCC (9), down one, St. Joseph (13) new to the poll, Machias (T-17) down five, and Vermont Technical College (19) down five.

For the second week in the row, Berkeley College (NY) is ranked as the USCAA’s top team receiving all 300 first place points.

Both men’s and women’s basketball travel to CMCC on Wednesday, Dec. 14, in games that have both conference and national ranking implications.
