SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— With the conclusion of the academic and athletic calendar, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Director of Athletics Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Spring 2018 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. This report showing student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility.
- Spring 2018: overall student-athlete GPA 2.78 (.02 greater than fall 2017; down .01 from spring 2017)
- Spring 2018: 89 percent of student-athletes completed retention standards as set by *USCAA Eligibility Guidelines (down 6 percent from fall 2017; 4 percent greater than spring 2017)
- Spring 2018: 38 student-athletes (or 41 percent of participating student-athletes) earned a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Spring 2018: student-athletes took a total of 1,144.5 credit hours, an average credit load of 12.57 per student-athlete.
*USCAA Eligibility Guidelines for participation defined as:
- Meeting Normal Progress standards of credit load completion of 24 credit hours during two terms of attendance.
- Meeting GPA sliding scale standards based on credit loads completed.
