SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— As the second half of the academic calendar is quickly approaching, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Director of Athletics Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Fall 2017 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. This report showing student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility.
- Fall 2017: overall student-athletes GPA 2.76 (up .04 from fall 2016—2.71)
- Fall 2017: student-athlete retention rate 95 percent (up two percent from fall 2016)
- Fall 2017: 46 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher (up eight percent from fall 2016)
SMCC Athletics is proud of these efforts made by student-athletes who are enrolled in a full-time course load in addition to meeting the demands of athletics.
