Athletics Engagement and Academic Report: Fall 2017

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— As the second half of the academic calendar is quickly approaching, Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Director of Athletics Matt Richards published the findings of the semi-annual Fall 2017 Athletics Engagement and Academic Report. This report showing student-athlete GPAs and retention rates based on United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) normal progress rules for athletic participation eligibility.

  • Fall 2017: overall student-athletes GPA 2.76 (up .04 from fall 2016—2.71)
  • Fall 2017: student-athlete retention rate 95 percent (up two percent from fall 2016)
  • Fall 2017: 46 student-athletes earned a 3.0 GPA or higher (up eight percent from fall 2016)

SMCC Athletics is proud of these efforts made by student-athletes who are enrolled in a full-time course load in addition to meeting the demands of athletics.
