SMCC Earns Best USCAA Director’s Cup Finish in Department History

NORFOLK, Va.— Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) Athletics placed ninth in the final tally of the 2019-20 United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Director’s Cup standings, the department’s best ever finish.

The Director’s Cup standings consist of results from the 2019 Fall Championship Week, 2020 USCAA Basketball National Championships in addition to points for 2019 National Convention attendance and sport offerings. Due to COVID-19, no points were awarded for spring championships.

SMCC Men’s and Women’s Soccer participated in the 2019 Fall Championship Week in Virginia Beach, Va. as Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champions—women’s soccer earned a victory defeating Penn State University Brandywine 4-0.

Both Men’s and Women’s Basketball supported the cause earning at-large bids to the USCAA Div. 2 Basketball National Championships in Uniontown, Penn. Men’s Basketball defeated Penn State University Wilkes-Barre in the opening round of the tournament and Women’s Basketball took down the University of Cincinnati Clermont in the quarterfinals.

As a department, the SeaWolves accumulated 309.5 total points, 166.5 behind the cup winner St. Mary of the Woods. SMCC ranked fifth among all division 2 institutions and first among Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) programs.
