South Portland, ME. In the home spring season opener, the Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team beat Bridgton Academy (BA) 4-3 with a walk off single by Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA). The Seawolves started off in a 3-0 hole but fought back winning it in the 7th inning.
Leading the way for the Seawolves in the home opener was sophomore center fielder Michael Calabrese (Dover, NH) who went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI's. Junior second baseman Jeremy Gearty (Lebanon, ME) went 2 for 4 adding a run with sophomore right fielder Alex Brown (Weymouth, MA) going 1 for 3 and knocking in the game winning RBI. Freshman pitcher Corey Monjiat (Waterboro, ME) came into the game in the 7th inning to shut down the Wolverines and get the win.
SMCC improves to 12-9-1 overall and remains 3-1 in the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC). The Seawolves will play a double header this Saturday March 30th as they travel to Briarcliffe College in New York. Game times are scheduled for a 12:00pm and 2:00pm start.
