Seawolves Snag YSCC Crown

Seawolves Snag YSCC Crown

South Portland - This afternoon's YSCC baseball postseason action started with a matchup between the Mustangs of CMCC and the Lynx of NHTI. The Lynx prevailed in a closely fought battle, 3-2, and earned the opportunity to face the Seawolves in today's championship contest.

In the championship game the Lynx chalked up a sizable lead in the first inning, 3-0, and held that score until the bottom of the second when the Seawolves cranked up their offense and scored six runs to take the lead for the first and final time. In the sixth inning SMCC's shortstop Tim Rodrigues (Barnstable, MA) put the Seawolves on the scoreboard with a two RBI single and then power hitters Caleb Burpee (Kennebunk, ME) and Kyle Reichert (Portland, ME) each pitched in an RBI double to give SM the lead at 4-3. Third baseman Shawn Murphy (Poland, ME) finished up the offensive charge with a two RBI single to extend the SM lead to three runs.

Seawolves errors led to runs by NHTI's Michael Kernan and Tyler Eaton to cut the SM lead to a lone run entering the bottom of the fourth. The score would remain 6-5 until the bottom of the fifth when a Joe Apon (Portland, ME) RBI double and Rodrigues RBI single bumped the Seawolves lead up to 8-5. SM pitcher Nate Boyle (Windham, ME) kept NHTI in check for the remaining two innings and the Seawolves tacked on two more runs in the bottom of the sixth thanks to RBI singles from Edgar Montan (Dominican Republic) and Daniel Kane (Portland, ME). With a score of 10-5 the Seawolves captured the YSCC championship.
