SeaWolves Repeat As YSCC Champions

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team repeats as Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Champions in its defeat over New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) 3-2 on Sunday, May 7.

Sophomore and staff ace Kyle Parmley (Eliot, Maine) got the nod for the home team and performed to expectations. The right-hander tossed seven complete innings and did not allow a hit until the fifth inning.

The SeaWolves did all their damage in the third inning beginning with a RBI base knock by sophomore Carter Chabot (Lewiston, Maine) to plate sophomore Amos Herrin (Wilton, Maine) for the first run of the game. Sophomore Caleb Chambers (Lebanon, Maine) added to the lead on a ground ball to third base and sophomore Nathaniel Cyr (Freeport, Maine) worked a two-out RBI walk.

The Lynx looked threatening in the top half of the seventh when Mike Simard singled to score two to pull within one. With the tying run in scoring position, Parmley got Gavin McFarland to ground out to first base to capture the team's fifth conference championship in six years.

Herrin collected four hits in four plate appearances and added a run. Chabot had the other multi-hit game.

Parmley went the distance to earn his fifth victory of the season. The Lynx's Michael Kernan suffered the loss in 4.2 innings of work, responsible for all three runs.

In a post-game interview Head Coach Jordan Yanni commented, "Today was indicative of the focus and perseverance our team had this spring after going winless in our first eight games. I told them to improve daily and the wins will come. I am extremely proud of the boys for getting it done today."

Following the game, NHTI's Steve Moran was awarded Defensive Player of the Tournament. SMCC's Herrin was named Offensive Player of the Tournament, and Parmley the tournament's Most Valuable Player.
