SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team dropped both to the Fighting Saints from the College of St. Joseph (Vt.) (CSJ) in a matinee double header at Graves Athletic Field on Sunday, Sept. 30.

Game 1: L, 4-1 | BOX

Sophomore Dylan Francoeur (Westbrook, Maine) made his third start of the fall for the SeaWolves, throwing an effective seven innings to allow just one earned run on his way to a season-best nine strikeouts. Opposite was CSJ's Justin Holmberg who matched a similar stat line.

The Fighting Saints would score first by way of a lead-off walk followed by a single to center in the second inning. Francoeur helped himself with a solo shot to left field in the bottom half to even the score at 1-1.

The SeaWolves here held to just one more hit in the contest, while CSJ scored twice in the fourth on one hit and one error and again in the sixth on a base knock through the left side.

Francoeur, despite a solid effort on the mound, suffered the loss—Holmberg went the distance to earn the victory.

Game 2: L, 4-1 | BOX

It was first-year Stefan Lesco (Somers, Conn.) who got the nod for the 3 p.m. start and too was electric through six innings. The right-hander struck out 10 but allowed three runs via a wild pitch and a two-run homerun.

The home team mustered five hits in total and scored its lone run on a pass ball with two outs in the fifth. SMCC couldn't find the big hit, leaving 11 on base—first-year Peter Stauber (Cumberland, Maine) logged the team's only multi-hit game.

SMCC breaks its four-game win streak, now 7-3 overall. The Fighting Saints stand 6-2 thus far.

The SeaWolves get back to action with two more at Great Bay Community College on Friday, Oct. 5. Games begin at 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Leary Field in Portsmouth, N.H.
