Baseball To Defend YSCC Crown With 34-Game Spring Slate

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball program prepares to defend its 2018 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) title with a 34-game spring slate beginning Thursday, Mar. 14 at Penn State University Hazleton.

Head Coach Dave Walsh will take the helm in his SMCC coaching debut with a four-game road trip to do business with the Pennsylvania State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC). In addition to Hazleton, the SeaWolves will match up with Penn State Wilkes-Barre and Penn State York for singles on Mar. 15-16.

SMCC plans to travel to Husson University for an exhibition with the Eagles' junior varsity squad ahead of returning home to host Bunker Hill Community College for a three-game weekend series Mar. 23-24. It's Bridgton Academy for a final tune-up before SMCC begins conference play with a single nine-inning contest against the Fighting Saints from the College of St. Joseph (CSJ). SMCC will look to get even with the Saints who were the only team to sweep the SeaWolves in the fall season.

The SeaWolves wrap up March and begin April with a string of seven non-conference games featuring the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI), Northern Essex Community College, University of Connecticut Avery Point, and Massasoit Community College. The YSCC runners-up from Central Maine Community College (CMCC) come to town before the SeaWolves get NHTI for their regular three-game conference series Apr. 12-13.

SMCC hits the road for double header action at CSJ and a single at Northern Essex prior to meeting another YSCC opponent in Great Bay Community College on Apr. 19-20. The CCRI series moves to South Portland on Apr. 21 followed by CMCC for two singles on April 23-24. The SeaWolves conclude the regular season with a matinee double dip vs. Carlton College (Canada) and again with Massasoit on April 28.

SMCC is scheduled to host the YSCC Championships, a one-day tournament at The Ballpark in Old Orchard Beach on Saturday, May 4. The four-team tournament will be determined upon the results of the conference regular season.
