MONT ALTO, Penn.—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) baseball team suffered losses in both games of a doubleheader at Penn State University Mont Alto on Wednesday, Mar. 13.

Game 1: L, 3-2

The scoring started in the third inning when Mont Alto's Blake Orndorff scored on a passed ball, giving them a 1-0 lead. The Seawolves responded in the fifth inning with a two-run homer by junior Liam Cooledge (Westbrook, Maine), putting them ahead 2-1. The home team fought back in the bottom of the fifth with a sacrifice fly by Wyatt Kissel that tied the game at 2-2. In the sixth inning, Mont Alto's Gavin Kissel hit a double that brought in the winning run, securing the 3-2 victory.

On the pitching side, Mont Alto's Zach Garlin put together a strong outing, allowing only two runs on three hits with seven strikeouts over seven innings. SMCC starter Jason Libby (Bangor, Maine) threw a complete game, giving up three runs on five hits with five strikeouts over six innings—Libby was taxed the loss.

Game 2: L, 8-4

The game saw Mont Alto taking an early lead in the first inning with James Sibert driving in two runs. SMCC evened the score in the third inning with first-years Quinn Dillon (Gorham, Maine) and Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth, Maine) contributing runs. Mont Alto again pulled ahead in the fourth with Orndorff hitting a triple to bring in three runs.

The home team continued to extend their lead with runs in the fifth and sixth innings, ultimately securing the win. The Seawolves tacked on two more runs in the seventh inning courtesy of an extra base hit by rookie Adam Rowland (Alberta, Canada) and a groundball by Dillon.

Mont Alto's Joshua Sullivan earned the win; sophomore Thomas Knott (Winterport, Maine) pitched four innings to be owed the loss.

SMCC stands 11-5 overall.
