Seawolves Lose Nail Biter to Central Maine

Seawolves Lose Nail Biter to Central Maine

The Southern Maine Community College Seawolves nearly pulled off a huge road win at Central Maine Community College this evening. Senior guard Joe Jardine (Greenville, ME) hit two big free throws with 52 seconds remaining to put the Seawolves up by one point.  The Seawolves defense made a big stop to get the ball back with 26 seconds remaining and still up by one point, but the Mustangs pressure forced the Seawolves to throw away the inbounds pass.  SMCC's defense came through again with three pass deflections before putting CM on the free throw line.  The Mustangs hit free throws down the stretch to seal the 64 -62 victory.

Forward Anderson Santana (South Boston, MA) added another double-double to his freshman season with 13 points and 11 rebounds.  Jardine ended the night with 12 points while senior guard Josh Mackie (South Portland, ME) contributed 9 points.

SMCC is now 10-16 overall and 4-12 in conference play.  The men host UMaine-Machias this Saturday, February 11th at 4:00 PM.  The Seawolves will also be honoring former men's basketball player, Tim Hagerman, on Saturday during a pre-game jersey retirement ceremony.  Hagerman passed away on December 26, 2011 after a year-long battle with cancer.  In addition to retiring Hagerman's #44 jersey, SMCC is hosting alumni games and receptions and starting a scholarship fund in Hagerman's honor.
