SMCC Men Fall Short Of An Upset Over Machias

SMCC Men Fall Short Of An Upset Over Machias

The Southern Maine Community College men's basketball team lost a hard fought battle to visiting University of Maine - Machias this evening 81-80. The Seawolves' shots weren't falling in the first half but found themselves trailing by only four points going into halftime. They found their rhythm in the second half and exchanged leads many times throughout the course of the final 10 minutes. Similar to their two-point loss to Central Maine on Tuesday, the Seawolves had the last look at the basket with an opportunity to win. With 18 seconds remaining and trailing by one point, Joe Jardine (Greenville, ME) found Emmanuel Donalson (East Orange, NJ) for the final shot. Donalson's shot went in, but the officials ruled that the release did not beat the buzzer.

SMCC showed a balanced scoring effort led by Donalson with 20 points while freshman center Nate Dow (Old Orchard Beach, ME) contributed 14 points, 6 rebounds and 5 blocked shots. Senior guard Josh Mackie (South Portland, ME) and freshman forward Anderson Santana (South Boston, MA) each chipped in 13.

The Seawolves are now 10-17 overall and 4-13 in conference play. The men play their final home game of the season this Thursday, February 16th against Northern Essex Community College.
