Seawolves Hang on to Clinch Win in Season Opener

Seawolves Hang on to Clinch Win in Season Opener

Auburn - The Seawolves opened up the 2013-14 season this afternoon with a victory thanks in part to Seawolf forward Tong Akot (Manchester, NH) who racked up a double double in his collegiate debut scoring 15 points and grabbing 11 rebounds to help lead SMCC past St. Thomas University by a score of 59-52.

The Seawolves stuggled to get the offensive going from behind the arc shooting 0-16 on the afternoon as a team but in the first half guard Jon Amabile (Portland, ME) shot 5-9 from the floor, scoring 12 of his 14 points and allowing the Seawolves to go into halftime with a five point cushion. In the second half guard Scott Proudman (Steep Falls, ME) chipped in nine of his eleven points and Akot contributed nine points and nine rebounds to keep the Seawolves in the lead and come away with the victory.

Leading the way for St. Thomas University were Calvin LeBlanc (Frederickton, NB, CA) and Dylan Gallant (Summerside, PEI, CA) who each contributed 14 points and combined for 5-8 shooting from beyond the arc.

With this win the Seawolves improve to 1-0 overall. They will return to action tomorrow October 27th at Central Maine Community College against the University of New Brunswick - St. John at 11:30am.
