Seawolves Squeak Past Knights in Final Seconds

Randolph, VT - With one second remaining in regulation and the score knotted at 78-78 SMCC point guard Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, ME) hit a long range two pointer to lift the Seawolves over the Knights of Vermont Technical College by a score of 80-78. 

Thirty-three minutes into the game after a hard fought, back and forth battle the Seawolves found themselves trailing by six points, 68-62, at the 6:22 mark when SMCC guard Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) hit a breakaway, momentum shifting dunk to cut the lead to four points. Two made free throws by Nouchanthavong brought the Seawolves to within two and then back to back made three point field goals by guard Jon Amabile (Portland, ME) and Martin put the Seawolves on top 72-68. The two teams then went back and forth, with all VTC's offense coming from guard Jamal Hughes (Murfreesboro, TN) who ended the game with 33 points to lead all scorers. Then came the ending dagger from Nouchanthavong with one second left to give the Seawolves the victory. 

Offensive leaders for the Seawolves were Nouchanthavong who ended with 16 points and five assists, Tong Akot (Manchester, NH) who contributed 14 points and eight rebounds, and Atencio Martin who chipped in 11 points and also grabbed eight boards.

With this win the Seawolves remain undefeated, improving to 7-0 overall and 2-0 in conference play. The Seawolves will return to action on Wednesday November 20th at Dean College at 7:30pm.
