Seawolves Soar Past Moose, Richards gets 200th Win

South Portland - Once again defensive intensity and a balanced scoring attack by the Seawolves enabled them to cruise past their opponent,conference foe University of Maine - Augusta, by a score of 114-89. This win was head coach Matt Richards' 200th career win, making him now the winningest coach in SMCC history, beating the previous record of 199 wins set in 1978. 

The Seawolves jumped out to an early 18-2 with 16:16 remaining in the first half of play and went on to score 69 points in the first half, entering the break with a 69-43 advantage. The Moose made a run in the second half, outscoring the Seawolves 46-45 in the final 20 minutes of play, but they could not overcome the 26 point deficit from the first 20 minutes.

The Seawolves had seven players contribute double digits on the offensive end; Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) had a team high 18 points on 8-10 shooting from the field, Justin Robbins (Sarasota, FL) contributed 16 points on 4-5 shooting from beyond the arc, Scott Proudman (Steep Falls, ME) chipped in 14 points, Tong Akot (Manchester, NH) 13 points, Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, ME) 12 points to go along with 11 assists, Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) 11 points and Alexander Hartford (Naples, ME) 10 points. Leading the Moose were Brandon Rogers (Turlock, CA) who scored a game high 26 points and grabbed nine boards and Jesse Smith (Troy, NY) who netted 18 points and dished out four assists. 

With this victory the Seawolves improve to an overall record of 16-5 and 9-1 in conference play. The Seawolves will be back in action on Saturday January 25th at the University of Maine in Machias at 3pm.
