Knights Slip by Seawolves in Final Regular Season Game

South Portland - This afternoon the Seawolves went head to head with the Knights of Vermont Technical College. After 40 minutes of back and forth action, neither team being able to separate themselves by more than nine points at any point during the contest, the teams found themselves deadlocked at 71, sending the contest in overtime. In the overtime period the Seawolves struck first when Alexander Hartford (Naples, ME) nailed two free throws to put the Seawolves on top 73-71. VTC's Jamal Hughes answered with four points of his own to put the Knights back on top 75-73. With 1:53 remaining the score was again knotted, 77-77. Hughes proceeded to score six straight points helping the Knights extend their lead 83-77 with just 00:33 seconds remaining. The Seawolves made a valiant effort but fell short as the Knights slipped by them 85-81.

Senior point guard Jose Nouchanthavong (Westbrook, ME) led the Seawolves with a team high 31 points to go along with eight rebounds. Teammates Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) and Alexander Hartford (Naples, ME) netted 13 and 11 points respectively on a combined 9-12 shooting. The duo also combined for 14 rebounds and five steals.

Hughes led the charge for the Knights netting a game high 44 points on 17-23 shooting from the field, including 3-4 from behind the arc. Hughes also grabbed nine boards and came up with seven steals. Nick Ryan also came up big for the Knights, dropping in 23 points, grabbing six boards and dishing out five assists. 

The Seawolves end their regular season at 20-8 with a YSCC record of 13-3. Postseason action will begin for the Seawolves on Friday February 21st at home when they take on UMaine-Augusta at 7pm.
