Seawolves' Buckets From Downtown Difference Maker Against Machias

Seawolves' Buckets From Downtown Difference Maker Against Machias

Machias - In last nights' YSCC men's basketball action three point shooting turned into the games' difference maker. The teams were even in nearly every category; both teams made 19 free throws, the rebound margin was 34-33, the assist (14-12) and turnover (15-13) categories were separated by just two, all categories in favor of Machias. However, the Seawolves connected on seven shots from downtown while the Clippers were unable to hit any (0-13). Josh Tuplin (Bath, ME), Atencio Martin (Kittery, ME) and Grayson Waterman (Berwick, ME) were each good for two from beyond the arc and Chase Soares (Falmouth, MA) added one to help the Seawolves come away with a 74-59 victory.

Martin led the Seawolves in the first half, scoring 14 of his team high 16, to help the Seawolves enter the break with a 10 point advantage. The Clippers scored the first six points of the second half to close the gap to four points but Waterman snapped the Clipper streak when he drained a jump shot at the 18:16 mark. The Seawolves were then able to push the lead back up to 12 before Machias' Dave Kalmbach converted two free throws to make the score 48-38. After a Clipper timeout the Seawolves were able to rattle off an 11-1 run to extend the lead to 20, their largest of the game as they went on to remain unbeaten in YSCC play.

The Clippers interior defense was able to hold the three Seawolves' big men to a combined six points, giving center Carlos Gonzalez (Lewiston, ME) only one look at the basket on the afternoon after he just came off a 31 point performance on Thursday. Martin led the Seawolves with 16 and Tyheem Simon (Queens, NY) netted 15 (including the dunk pictured in the photo) and dished out four assists. Waterman and point guard Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) each chipped in 10 for the Seawolves.

Antwan Ruiz led the Clippers with a game high 20 points.

The Seawolves (19-2, 13-0 YSCC) will be back in action on Wednesday for the most anticipated game of the second semester, they will be hosting the Mustangs of CMCC at 8pm at the HUB!
