UNB Slips Past SMCC

Auburn - Poor free throw shooting would be the demise of the Seawolves in this afternoon's close game against UNB St. John as they fell 74-71 in overtime.

The Seawolves held a ten point lead with 9:13 remaining but UNB began chipping away and pulled to within six, 63-57, with just under three minutes left to play. In the final three minutes the Seawolves connected on just 1-7 attempts from the charity stripe, allowing UNB to tie the game at 64-64 and send it to overtime.

After the teams traded buckets early in the extra period, the Seawolves netted five unanswered points to go up 71-68 with one minute remaining. UNB made one of two free throw attempts to shave the lead back to two and then a Seawolves turnover gave UNB possession with 27 ticks on the clock. With five seconds left UNB found Drew Robart open in the corner, Robart netted a three pointer to give UNB the lead and eventual victory.

Shooting guard Jon Amabile (Portland, ME) had game highs in both points and rebounds with 25 and 11 respectively. Point guard Jordan DeRosby (Waterville, ME) netted 16 points.

UNB was lef by Matt Brown who ended with 19 points and six rebounds.

The Seawolves, 1-1 overall, will play Navy Prep on the road next Saturday at 3pm.
