Bash Brothers Fuel Victory With Double-Doubles

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College men's basketball team defeated the Knights of Northern Essex Community College (NECC) in a non-conference showdown at the HUB Gymnasium on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The SeaWolves prevailed 98-91 to improve to 5-1 on the season.

SMCC trailed the Knights 41-37 at the end of the first half, but the SeaWolves brought a new energy on both sides of the court stringing together a 13-2 run to begin the second. In a game that featured seven lead changes, SMCC held its largest of the evening by a 15-point margin with 12:18 left on the clock. The SeaWolves offense scored 61 in the second half, its largest point total in a half this season, to secure the seven-point victory.

Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) and junior John Morgan (Sanford, Maine), calling themselves the Bash Brothers, both recorded double-doubles in the game. Silvestri scored 19 and grabbed 12 rebounds; Morgan with 11 and 15. NECC's Adam Goldstein scored a game-high 21 points in the contest.

The workload was shared among starters and bench players as six SeaWolves scored in double figures. SMCC shot near 48 percent from the floor and 70 percent from the charity stripe. The game was won on the glass, as the home team out-rebounded its opponent 64-42.

Sophomore Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.), who finished with 13 points and came up with timely plays at the end of the game, commented, "The intensity gets me going for sure. I love it."

The SeaWolves will have seven days rest before traveling to Unity College for their first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Divisional game on Wednesday, Nov. 16. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m.
