Morgan Nets 27, SeaWolves Conquer Rams

UNITY, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College men's basketball team defeated the Rams of Unity College by a score of 91-71 on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in their first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) contest of the season.

Captain John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) led all scorers and tallied a career-high 27 points in knocking down an efficient 12 of 17 from the floor. Sophomore Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) made a season-high six three-pointers to total his 18 points. Sophomore Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) finished with 12 points and eight rebounds and senior Michael Harmon (Portland, Maine) came off the bench to score 11.

The SeaWolves led at half time, only be a three-point margin, but outscored their opponent 56-39 in the second half to pick up their first conference win of the season and improve to 6-1 overall.

Head Coach Matt Richards stated, "Conference play is always tough and tonight was no different. Unity did a great job in playing their style of basketball. Fortunate for us, we were lifted by a great effort from John Morganon both ends of the floor, and Chase Soares hit timely shots in the second half to really give us a boost in securing the win."

The SeaWolves play host to Vermont Technical College for another YSCC tilt on Saturday, Nov. 19. The Knights will come to the HUB Gymnasium sporting a conference-best 3-0 record. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
