CONCORD, N.H.— The Southern Maine Community College men's basketball team suffered its first Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) loss at the hands of New Hampshire Technical Institute (NHTI) 72-56 on Thursday, Dec. 1.
Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) led the SeaWolves with 11 points and seven rebounds. Sophomore Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) finished with 10 points, knocking down two from three-point land, and sophomore Patrick Lobor (Portland, Maine) was effective off the bench tallying a season-high eight points.
NHTI was able to get five players in double figures that included a double-double, 16 points and 12 rebounds, from Dante Ramos.
The SeaWolves trailed the home team 33-26 at the half, but the Linx started the second on a 12-3 run and managed to keep the separation until the final whistle.
The SeaWolves took 16 more shots than their counterpart, recorded less turnovers, and out-rebounded the Linx by eight. Perhaps the difference in the game was New Hampshire's ability to get to the free-throw line and shoot an efficient 80 percent (28-35).
The SeaWolves stand 3-1 in conference play, and 8-2 overall.
The action continues when the SeaWolves play host to the 4-2 Clippers from the University of Maine at Machias in another YSCC tilt on Saturday, Dec. 3. Tip-off from the HUB Gymnasium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
