SMCC Bests Great Bay Behind Two Double-Doubles

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine— The Southern Maine Community College men's basketball team defeated the Herons from Great Bay Community College in convincing fashion to earn its fifth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) victory on Tuesday, Dec. 6.

Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) led all scorers with a career-high 29 points on his way to his second double-double of the season. Silvestri added 14 rebounds to his resume, grabbing 10 on the offensive end. Junior captain John Morgan (Sanford, Maine) notched his third double-double of his 2016 campaign, tallying 26 points by way of 70 percent from the floor. Sophomore Chase Soares (Falmouth, Mass.) poured in a season-high 22 points, making five of 10 from beyond the arch.

Great Bay's Tyler White improved on his YSCC-leading points-per-game average scoring 27 on the evening, making seven three-pointers.

In a game that featured 12 lead changes, SMCC led at the half 49-40 and then strung together an 11-2 run to open the second. The SeaWolves offense posted its largest single-game point total of the season to secure the 104-84 victory. Defensively, SMCC has allowed the fewest points among YSCC teams averaging 71.1 points-against over 12 games this season.

In a post-game interview, Keanyon Lambert (Manchester, N.H.) reflected on the team's ability to be effective off the bench, "Coach says […] play as hard as you can- get fatigued, he loves that. We have a deep bench, we can get guys in rotations, and we can really put the ball in the hoop."
