SMCC Topples UMA In Divisional Showdown

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The surging Southern Maine Community College men’s basketball team won its tenth Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) game in a 114-75 rout of the University of Maine at Augusta at the HUB on Wednesday, Jan. 25.

Sophomore Dylan Silvestri (Pelham, N.H.) led all scorers in the game with a career-high 31 points, adding eight rebounds, seven offensive, in 14 minutes of action. Sophomore Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.) poured in 18, shooting 7-8 from the field. Captain John Morgan (Sanford, Maine), sophomore Keanyon Lambert (Manchester, N.H.), and first-year Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine) all finished in double figures.

The SeaWolves set new season-highs in total points tallying 114, a field-goal percentage of 55.3, and assists collecting 36. The SMCC bench contributed with 66 points on the way to the team’s fifth consecutive victory.

In discussing the importance of winning divisional conference games at this stage of the season, first-year Dennis Cummins (Abington, Mass.) commented, “Winning these games will put us in good position for tournament time—we’ve fought hard all year.”

The SMCC men improve to 10-2 in conference play, and 17-4 overall— trailing only Central Maine Community College in the YSCC North Division standings.

The action continues when the SeaWolves take on the 11-9 Bulldogs from Dean College in a non-conference game on Saturday, Jan. 28. Tip-off is scheduled for 3 p.m. at the HUB.
