SMCC’s Chris Banks Joins USCAA HOF

RICHMOND, Va.— Former Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball player Chris Banks was inducted into the United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Hall of Fame to kick off the National Convention on Sunday, June 3.

Banks was inducted with three others as the second class to be enshrined. Frank Carbone of St. Joseph's College Brooklyn, John View of SUNY ESF, and Ben Jones of The Apprentice School were also awarded the association's highest honor.

Banks, a 6-1 guard out of Limerick, Maine, played two seasons under Coach Matt Richards in which he totaled 1043 points, averaging 16.0 points per game. One of the most accurate and deadly three-point shooters in USCAA history, Banks made 223 at a 40.3 percent clip—averaging 3.4 per game. Banks was a back-to-back Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) champion and USCAA National Semi-Finalist in 2007 and 2008; also a YSCC first team selection and USCAA All-American in his second season.

At the USCAA national tournament in 2008, Banks recorded 11 made three-point field goals against UC-Clermont which still stands as a USCAA national tournament game record. He finished that game with 45 total points, the most points scored in a USCAA national tournament game until 2014 when the record was surpassed by a player scoring 46.

During his time as a SeaWolf, the men's basketball program amassed a record of 47-18. In addition to his accolades on the court, Banks maintained a 3.32 GPA at SMCC. He currently resides in St. Cloud, Florida and works in Kinder Care Education.

"I am beyond grateful to be a part of this very prestigious honor and group of Hall of Fame inductees," said Banks. "This honor extends to my teammates, their families, my family, and all of the coaching staff at SMCC. A lot of hard work, dedication, and love is put into this program and I'm proud to say I was part of it. Very thankful for the USCAA and what it's been able to accomplish and represent."

Richards expressed his excitement for Banks, "During the past 15 seasons, Chris Banks is part of a select few that made significant contributions both regionally and nationally. Chris was his best on the biggest stage and the hall of fame award by the USCAA is a very fitting accolade for his career."
