SeaWolves Tune Mechanics On Senior Day

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) men's basketball team downed the Mechanics from Williamson College of the Trades 76-39 in a non-conference contest on Sunday, Feb. 10.

Prior to the game, the men's basketball program honored five players who were to play their final game at The HUB—Jacobee Burpee (Manchester, N.H.), Sean Bowering (Englewood, Colo.), Anderson Kavutse (Westbrook, Maine), Ryan Cloutier (Pelham, N.H.), and Atencio Martin (Kittery, Maine). The SeaWolves took the lead on a made three by Cloutier off the tip and never looked back. SMCC was effective on the defensive end, limiting their opponent to 22 less points than their season average—forcing the Mechanics into 25.5 percent shooting.

More impressively, SMCC was able to get fluid ball movement assisting on 25 of 28 made baskets. The home team made 13 three-pointers and turned 14 Williamson turnovers into 18 points.

Once again, Cloutier led the SeaWolves in scoring with 15 on 6-8 from the floor—chipping in seven rebounds and five assists. Martin used four triples to score 14 points and sophomore Gregory Trinidad (Lawrence, Mass.) followed with 13 of his own.

Williamson's David Derby led his team with 11 points and 12 rebounds.

SMCC begins a new winning streak and moves to 20-5 overall, remaining 14-2 in conference play. Williamson slips to 3-17 overall.

The SeaWolves will enter the Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) playoff tournament as the #2-seed, losing the tie breaker to #1 NHTI. SMCC will host #7 University of Maine at Augusta in the quarter final round on Sunday, Feb. 17. Should SMCC advance, the final four will be played out at Central Maine Community College on Feb. 23-24.
