GRAY, Maine.-- The Southern Maine Community College golf team took first place in a tournament with Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) opponent University of Maine- Augusta at Spring Meadows Golf Course on Saturday, Oct. 1. The SeaWolves fired a cumulative score of 361, a score the team has been consistent with throughout the season.

The UMA Moose played with three golfers, disqualifying them from scoring as a team and only as individuals. UMA's Lee MacDowell carded a 79, the tournament low.

SMCC's Seth Chim (Portland, Maine) fired a team low 85, second best overall in a field of eight golfers. First-yearsKevin Dwyer (Hanover, N.H.) and Jacob Locke (Everett, Mass.) both finished with 87s, tied for third best of all individuals. Benjamin Wade (Topsham, Maine) contributed with a 102, and Justin Royce (Hartford, Vt.) ended his round with a 110 as the fifth man for the SeaWolves.

Locke carded his best score of the season at Spring Meadows, 11 strokes better than his previous low score thus far in his 2016 campaign. Over four rounds, Chim is averaging a team low 83.3 and Dwyer right behind with an 84.5.

In four tournaments this season, SMCC has placed first in three and missed a top finish by just one stroke. Head Coach Ethan Wells stated, "Consistency has been the key to our success. In each victory, someone different has stepped up to shoot lower than their average. We'll use the next two weeks to prepare for the conference championship."

The SeaWolves will play in the YSCC Championship Tournament, the last match of the year, on Saturday, Oct. 15 hosted by Great Bay Community College at Pease Golf Course in Portsmouth, N.H. The shotgun format will begin at 9 a.m.
